Our Country We Will Return to

Many Christian churches may assume that the heavenly country we are going to is the Garden of Eden where Adam and Eve lived. But if it were the Garden of Eden, there would be lots of contradictions: In the Garden of Eden there was a marriage system, and the married couple were to be fruitful and increase in number. If men were fruitful and multiplied in the world where there is no death, how many populations would be there in the eternal kingdom of heaven for countless years? In the Garden of Eden, there was a system as follows:

Genesis 2:18-20 The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” God created Eve to be Adam’s wife, and He said:

Genesis 1:27-28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.” However, Jesus Christ said:

Matthew 22:30 “At the resurrection people will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.”

Luke 20:34-36 Jesus replied, “The people of this age marry and are given in marriage. But those who are considered worthy of taking part in that age and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage, … for they are like the angels” (cf. Mark 12:24-25).

Jesus said that at the resurrection we will neither marry nor be given in marriage and we will not be like Adam of the earth but like the angels in heaven. This testifies that the kingdom of heaven we are going to is not Eden where Adam and Eve lived. The Apostle Paul wrote concerning this as follows:

I Corinthians 15:47 “The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven. As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven.

The man of the dust of the earth means the man of the body. And the man from heaven means Jesus as well as the sons of God (Job 38:7), the heavenly hosts and angels who have been with Him from the beginning. Though we are of the earth, we will leave this physical world and go to the spiritual world, the kingdom of heaven. The physical beings can be changed into the spiritual ones, and the spiritual into the physical.

To men, the angelic world seems to greatly differ from the human world. But to God it doesn’t, because He can move angels from the spiritual world to this human world, and from this human world to the spiritual world. We were originally created to be spiritual beings. However, by committing sin in heaven we came to this sinful world, being transformed into physical beings – into the likeness of sinners (Ezekiel 28:11-16). However, if we are cleansed by the precious blood of Christ, we will be restored to the glorious state in the angelic world. The Apostle Paul wrote, too:

Ephesians 1:3-4 who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world… And Jesus said:

Luke 19:10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.

Even before the world was made, Jesus had already chosen His loving people who were with Him in the spiritual world. Unfortunately, they were tempted by Satan and lost from heaven. To seek and to save the lost, Jesus came to earth. When He comes on the last day, we will be transformed into His likeness (Philippians 3:21; John 3:1-8). The heavenly country we are going to is not the Garden of Eden where the earthly beings once lived, but God’s world where the spiritual beings live. We can see millions of galaxies in the vast universe, traveling freely anywhere in the spiritual world.
